Hunger Games: The Review

So, I was nagged and prodded and bothered to 'READ THE HUNGER GAMES' for almost two years now. So when the movie came out, I finally picked up the book and READ IT...
At first, I was doubtful and kind of put off by the gritty writing style and the whole idea of it. In case you don't know: The Hunger Games are held once a year in the country of Panam, in which 24 teenagers from 12 districts fight to the death for the entertainment of The Capitol and the rest of the country. The victor wins riches and fame, the 23 losers serve as a reminder that the Capitol will not be rebelled against.
Yeah, it's intense.
But as you read, it's much more than brutality and violence. You begin to see the humanity of the characters. Despite growing up in a harsh environment, the characters (especially Katniss, seeing as how the entire series is in first-person ) are compassionate, well-rounded, and easy to identify with. The main moral of the story, to me at least, is: No matter how bad the circumstances, no matter how bent you are on surviving, you should never lose your humanity or compassion of heart.

Anyway, on to the movie: I thought the movie was well-laid out and explained well for audience understanding. It wasn't in first person, so we got to see much more than we did in the book. Because of this, many of the things that would have seemed awkward being explained by Katniss are handled by the other characters. True, as with every movie, they had to leave some things out for time and flow, but all in all they kept as close to the book as they possibly could. It was well worth my money!

(And now for a little rant: I don't like tying it to political parties or real life wars or anything like that mostly because I want to have my series and enjoy it too. So stop trying to attach things to it that aren't there. It annoys me when people bash the movie just because they left out tiny details. HOW LONG DO YOU WANT TO SIT THERE, PEOPLE? It's a movie, they can't put in every single thing! Just think about how bad it could have been? Leave me in peace with my series and go away! )

All in all, I like this series. I'll see if my opinion changes when I read the 2 and 3rd books, but even then, the first book and the movie are amazing. It can be a little gritty for my taste, and it can be a little intense... But I love it. ^^
Foxface kind of annoyed me when I first read the book, but she's grown on me since. Especially when I saw her in the movie. I love that part when her and Katniss run into eachother but they're both so scared that they don't do anything. I would probably use Foxface's strategy: Just wait it out and survive while everyone else kills eachother. Of course, I like Katniss too. She's cool. -nods- Rue's sweet,a nd so is Thresh. I like Peeta for now, and I like Gale too.... Hopefully, it'll stay that way. XD Feel free to tell me what you thought in the comments.

Ta ta! And may the odds be ever in your favor. ♪
